"We thought we needed a new vanity. What we actually needed was to remove all the grey." Isla's ten-year-old townhouse ensuite was clean, functional and completely cold: dark grey floors, glossy white walls, harsh lighting. The plan was a quick vanity swap. The tiles had other ideas.
The grey was the whole problem
Once Isla started collecting inspiration images, the pattern was obvious. Every bathroom she saved was warm, natural and soft, and hers was none of those things. The vanity was never the issue. The grey floor was.
She wanted the feel of a boutique hotel bathroom in travertine, without the cost or the sealing and maintenance that comes with natural stone.
Samples before decisions
She found BloomBuild searching for travertine look bathroom tiles and ordered samples before committing to anything. For a weekend the samples moved around the ensuite: on the grey floor in morning light, against the shower wall in the afternoon, under the vanity lights at night.
How the room came together
The Hobart Travertine Look Beige runs across the floor and through the shower, laid with an ivory grout so the vein of the tile does the talking. The Mildura White Matte Subway covers the walls, quiet on purpose. A light oak vanity, brushed brass tapware and warm white bulbs finished the shift from cold to calm.
Ordering online replaced another weekend of showroom laps. When the tiles arrived kerbside, their tiler checked the batch and started the next week.
The light test Isla used is in how to test a tile sample at home, and how many tiles you actually need covers ordering it all in one batch.
